Hello everyone and sorry for my English.

There's a game came out recently called Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and inside that game there's a hidden tape called "Classified Intel Data" that contains some noise that, I think, sounds like MSX game loading from tape. Can anyone confirm that this in fact MSX or some other system data? Is there a way to decode it?

Here's the sound file:

i tried, to load it as a CAS file in openmsx

Fatal error: Failed to insert WAV image: "WavData error: Unknown WAVE data format: 0xfffe" and also failed to insert CAS image: "/home/user/Downloads/MGSGZ.wav: not a valid CAS image"

That just seems to be a WAV file compatibility thing, it does not contain RAW PCM data it seems. You should be able to convert it to a format supported by openMSX…

Just to specify, this is a recording of game sound, not an original file from game resources, so it may need some cleaning, adjusting or something like that, I'm not a pro in audio.

If it's not loadable from basic, maybe it's a save state from metal gear 1... This game uses tape for that...

It's not loadable from basic (it doesn't have a separate header block), and I failed to load it as a savestate, unfortunately. But that could be because of the WAV file quality or so.

Wav2cas converts it into a cas file which, when inspected in Notepad, appears to be a highly repetitive pattern. It doesn't appear to be code, looks too repetitive to be a savestate... Maybe it is a small graphics definition? Yet most likely it's nothing but a joke.

It would've been the best joke ever if it were a save state though Big smile

Leading into a secret room perhaps, hidden for 25 years!

Probably it's some NSA code to spy on our MSX's

I've made a better quality recording with 3.5 to 3.5 cord:

I've also tried converting wav to cas with MSXcastools and from what I understand it detected that long beep as a header, at 1.8s it recognised data block, but then it got confused and detected header and data several times at the same second and just skipped everything else as headerless data. At least I hope it can be edited somehow to make it readable.

In any case, is it safe to say, that this tape is MSX-related? Is there any other system that works with similar sound?
