Het feit dat Philip Glass in januari 2017 80 wordt blijft niet opgemerkt. Dit jaar zijn de nodige festivals waaronder een Hommage komende zondag in Hoofddorp. Ook verschijnen er veel nieuwe albums van jonge musici zoals van Amy Dickson (Sydney 1982). Amy is een zeer getalenteerde saxofoonspeler, die in London en Amsterdam studeerde. Tien jaar geleden hoorde Amy Dickson voor het eerst het iconische vioolconcert van Philip Glass uit 1987. Ondanks de technische uitdagingen weet zij dit uitdagende werk goed onder de knie te krijgen. Veel uitdagender was voor haar de vioolsonate, die voor saxofoon is bewerkt. De saxofoon weet perfect de rol van de viool te kunnen vervullen. Deze prachtige opname wordt gecomplementeerd met twee delen uit The Hours.

A ground-breaking recording of Philip Glass’s most iconic music in celebration of his 80th birthday, transcribed for saxophone by Classic BRIT Award-winning classical saxophonist, featuring his violin concerto, violin sonata for which Dickson had to learn a new technique to master the work; circular breathing. Two more works feature in the album, both taken from Glass’ soundtrack to the ‘The Hours’, which won the “Best Original Music” award at the British Academy Film Awards in 2003. ‘Escape’ and ‘Morning Passages’ are pieces of intimate chamber music, both arranged by Amy’s husband, composer Jamie Barclay.
