YOURI EGOROV

Youri Egorov (1954-1988) heeft in zijn korte stormachtige carrière veel harten van muziekliefhebbers geraakt door zijn uitmuntende spel. Niet zonder reden waren de fans van het Van Cliburn Competition in 1977 boos, dat de jury Egorov niet tot de finale toeliet. Het prijzengeld wordt ingezameld en Egorov maakt zijn debuut in Carnegie Hall. Onlangs werd een opname uit 1980 van een recital in het Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena bij LA gevonden. Deze opname geeft een sidderende opname van Chopins Etudes opus 25, Fantasie K475 van Mozart en een zeldzame opname van Egorov’s interpretaties van Schumann’s Fantasie opus 17. Dit album staat garant voor ruim tachtig minuten genieten van subliem pianospel!

Russian born pianist Youri Egorov first came to international prominence as the clear favorite among the 1977 Van Cliburn Competition’s semifinalists. Egorov’s playing has drawn parallels with that of pianist Dinu Lipatti - both men gave their final concert performances at the age of 33, each knowing at the time that he was afflicted with a fatal illness and had but months to live. 1978 was the year in which Egorov’s career took flight.

After his January début in New York the critics compared him to Horowitz, Richter and Rachmaninov.
