SAM NEWBOULD QUINTET

With earthy melodies, lush harmony and emotive improvisation, the Sam Newbould Quintet draws together some of the most exciting talents in European jazz. Originating from the UK, Spain, Israel, Italy, and Germany, the group met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2017. They have since developed a unique sound that reflects their diverse musical backgrounds. Thoughtful and imaginative, Sam’s writing is influenced by the compositional styles of Kenny Wheeler, Django Bates and Wayne Shorter. He also draws influence from a kaleidoscope of genres including jazz, English folk, 20th century classical music and progressive rock. The quintet’s debut album ‘Blencathra’ comprises a set of original compositions written as a reflection of life growing up in the mystical, beautiful, and wild North of England. The album was recorded at Tracking Room Studios in Amsterdam and mastered by Jon Rosenberg at System Two Studios, Brooklyn NY.
