The impressive multitasking operating system SymbOS just got even more interesting with the release of two games created by Edoz, who took his first steps as a SymbOS developer in this forum topic.

His SymbOS versions of 4 in a row and Tetris are now available for download in our MSX Downloads section. In this video you can see Tetris in action, whilst playinf an mp3 file in the background. Having the hang of it, Edoz now plans on creating a SymbOS version of Chuckie Egg.

Very nice. Those two games would be cool on their own, but seeing it running in a multitasking environment on the MSX makes it awesome. Great job!

Congratulation to Edoz for the first "3rd party" SymBasic apps and to Trebmint for developing SymStudio - a full SymbOS IDE becomes reality!

Trebmint and I worked quite hard on DirectX for SymbOS during the last two weeks Big smile Currently I have to optimize the API a little bit, and Trebmint now can start to integrate it in SymStudio...

Very nice edoz! BTW, does Symbos also work on 1chipMSX? And where can I find the pre-installed files? I read it's not so easy to install Symbos? Until now I never used it...

Hi Retrofan as far I know it is possible to use it on the 1chipMSX. If I remember correctly Prodatron was able to run it in Nijmegen. But I'm not sure it was with a sunrise IDE or with the internal SD card.

The installation is all about finding the storage device in symbos. If you have a sunrise CF ATA-IDE you can use the movie below as example. Here you can see how to install symbos! The simplest way is just to create a symbos directory on your partition contains all the symbos files. Then run symbos and map the partition in symbos to a drive letter. Be aware that in symbos partition 4 is partition 1 in MSXDOS. Symbos only supports the first 4 partitions. Save the settings in symbos! The settings are stored on your partition root. If it is stored somewhere else just copy the symbos.ini file in dos to the root of your partition! Then restart symbos. (Don't forget to set the system folder in symbos)

I think you have to try symbos!!! it's amazing how it runs on a MSX! Version 2.1 is still in development but version 2.0 is already very cool! Don't forget to play some MP3 files if you have the decoder !!! Prodatron did a lot of programming on this for many years so at least you can try it Big smile

The files can be found on www.symbos.de and there is also a preview package that already supports the 16 colors and gfx9000 (if own one)

Thanks edoz, but I don't have a Sunrise CF interface atm, so I hope it will work on an 1chipMSX.
@Prodatron: can you confirm this please?

@Retrofan: Yes, Caro developed a driver for the OCM six years ago, this works fine Smile

I will create a ZIP file for you which you just have to copy on the SD card. Unfortunately I am not home until sunday, so we have to wait some days...

@Prodatron - perhaps it's a good idea to share this installation ZIP on the SymbOS website and/or the MRC downloads? Think more people are interested in a ready-to-go SymbOS setup for OCM.

@Prodatron: I also have a Padial SD interface laying around here. Is it hard to support this device as well? Thanks!

Here is a temporary dump of my OCM SD card:
http://www.symbos.de/download/symocm.zip
Please start SymbOS with the "S.bat" file.

I will put a cleaned up version later into the download section of the website as well. Hope it works on your OCM!

I'm not quite sure, but some specifications can be downloaded here I only know it uses the ATMEL AM29F040B for flash...
